2-foot-thick clay liner overlain by a 60-mil, high-density polyethylene(HDPE)geomembrane,and
LCRS consisting of 1 foot of granular drainage material will be constructed on the WMU FU-03
base. A permanent double composite lined sump will be constructed at the southern edge of
WMU FU-03 base.
Side slope liners will be constructed on the northern, southern, and western slopes. The side slope
liner consists of a geosynthetic clay liner(GCL)overlain by a 60-mil, single-sided textured,HDPE
geomembrane, and a single-sided geocomposite drainage net (GDN). A portion of the northern
WMU FU-03 slope is underlain by the former Austin Road Landfill. To provide support for the side
slope liner, an approximately 5-ft thickness of subgrade fill will be placed and compacted over the
portion of the former Austin Road Landfill that underlies WMU FU-03.
1.3 Reference Documents
The following reference documents provide background information and support this CQA manual:
• WMU FU-03 Design and Construction Documents, Forward Landfill, Lewis
Engineering, 2002.
• American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM)Annual Book of ASTM Standards.
Section 4 Construction, Volume 04.02 Concrete and Aggregates.
• American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM)Annual Book of ASTM Standards.
Section 4 Construction, Volume 04.08 Soil and Rock; Dimension Stone;
GEOSYNTHETICS.
• American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM)Annual Book of ASTM Standards.
Section 8 Plastics, Volumes 08.01 Plastics (I), 08.02 Plastics (II), and 08.03 Plastics
(III).
• American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO),
Specifications and Volume II Tests.
Page 2
