The Plan has been prepared by Bryan A. Stirrat&Associates(BAS)and
is dated September 2004. CIWMB staff have completed its review of the Plan and would like to provide you
with our comments.
Specific Comments:
1. Page 1-Project Background:
➢ Please identify or show the location of the ten(10)extraction wells which have been installed
in native soil along the western perimeter boundary
➢ It is stated that BAS believes that gas is being produced from areas within Waste
Management Unit B (WMU B)and migrates towards the west below WMU D-00,D-01,and
D-02. Further augmentation as to why BAS believes this theory should accompany the Plan.
2. Page 9- System Operation:
➢ The control system is stated to work until gas concentrations level at the property boundary
is within the regulatory guidelines. However no timeline is given as when such
concentrations will be under control. Please provide with justifications the estimated time
needed to overcome the gas migration issues at this site.
➢ Is the existing gas extraction system, coupled with the additional wells scheduled to be
installed around WMU-C and WMU-B,expected to eliminate the source of the gas at GP-9
or just lessen the impact? When will these additional wells be installed?
California Environmental Protection Agency
Printed on Recycled Paper
The energy challenge facing California is real.Every Californian needs to take immediate action to reduce energy consumption. For a list of
simple ways you can reduce demand and cut your energy costs, see our Web site at http://www.ciwmb.ca.gov/
