387.8 acres. The total site capacity is based on the difference between the
estimated subgrade excavation and the final disposal area contours. The total
remaining airspace for the Forward Landfill, as of January 2006+e XGG&, is
30.03 million cubic yards (mcy) (date of last aerial survey was February
2005 32,3'8,^6^ ^_. Appendix C presents information regarding air space, final,
intermediate and daily cover requirements and remaining refuse capacity. The
remaining site life is based on a refuse to soil volume ratio of 4:1 and a refuse
density of 1,740 pounds per cv(or 0.87 tons per cubic yard). This refuse density
results from a calculation using (1) the Seltember 15 1999 aerial topographic
map of Forward Landfill, (2) the October 6, 2000 aerial topographic map of
Forward Landfill and (3) the total tons of refuse placed in the landfill between
the dates of the two aerial topogralhic maps Forward's consultants compare
the two aerial tomographic maps to estimate the volume of fill (refuse and cover
soil placed during the period between the two aerials. This volume was divided
by the total tons of refusel2laced in the landfill over the same period. This (0.87
tons per cubic yard) is the lowest in-place density calculated in this manner for
Forward Landfill since 1999 In addition it is important to note that this
calculation produces a conservative (i.e., low) in-place density because the
volume of fill placed is not reduced to account for cover soil. The tons of refuse
are divided into the total volume of airspace filled which includes cover soils. If
the volume of cover soils were subtracted from the volume of fill placed, the
calculated in-place density of refuse would increase(i.e., the same number of
tons were placed in fewer cubic yards of airspace), which would result in a
longer estimated site life. The site capacity calculations reflecting this
information are included in Appendix C.
4.7 SITE LiFE PROJECTION
4.7.1 SITE LIFE CALCULATIONS
in order to calculate the site life for the Forward Landfill, the following criteria
was utilized.
• Remaining Site Capacity (with liner, daily,
intermediate and final cover) 32.3-30.03 mcy
• Refuse to Cover Ratio 4:1
• In-Place Density 1,740 lbs/cy
Forward Landfill JTD 4-12
j:\Allied\Forwar4TD Amendment\lanuary2006 JTD AmendmentVM Sec 4 012506 Track Changes.doc:
05/24/02;Amendment No.1: 1/27/2006
i
