The fin:occurred along the
horizontal collector. The facility operator indicated that they would place soil over the area and monitor it The operator provided a copy of the facility response plan the
pertained to sub-surface landfill fires. It is currently under review. It appears that the landfill gas system is over pulling and creating fires that erupt below the surface of
the landfll. The facility shall review and evaluate the gas control system to determine what can be done to prevent further instances of sub-surface landfill fires. The
site operator is currently working with the CIWMB to resolve the issue.
Notes:
1.The tarps used as daly'cover were not balasted to prevent the tarps from being removed during high winds.
Properly weigh down the tarps each night
2.The daily cover consisted of tarps,TASW,soil.
3.The perimeter gas probes were monitored using a Landtec Gem 500 field screening device, during the inspection,The
following was noted:
SGS (S)(1)(D)0.0%CH4
SG11 (S)0.2%CH4(1)1.7%CH4(D)0.0%
SG12(S)2.1%CH4(1)0.0%CH4(D)0.5%
4.The following Areas of Concern listed on the previous inspection report were resolved:
a.T27CCR 20820-Drainage and Erosion Control
b.T27CCR 20921 (a)(2)-Explosive Gas Control
