• K
1
meter to sound. This point is usually cleadly visible on the probe. If it is bot visible it should k
-located by dipping probe into a water container where the contact'can be clY seen, then t
MaTked. The total length of the water level meter should correspond with the 'length of the
measuring tape. In addition, the individual marks au the cable. should correspond with the
correct footage. If the cable.does not match the measuring then the difference,(if consistent)
should be calculated. as a percentage, (i.e.; IdU foot cible measures 142. feet 9$°I). AI}
Mea=ements with the cable should-then be multiplied by 0.98 to correct for the error. If the
individual footage marks are not placed correctly, and are not consistent in their deviation, the
instrument should be replaced.
If the water level indicator is constructed of a cable then catiibration wiII be performed once per
Year. If there is a discrepancy, the conversion factor will be marked directly on the instrumart.
Water Ievel indicators constructed of tape are more subject to stretching and should becalibrated
every 6 months and marked with the appropriate conversion.
Calibration data for each" ent will.be-recorded-and kepeia a.binder.at the;office for-futurereference. Tbe most recent calibration results will also be recorded in the tecinicians
field notes-
Them
is no specific forret for water level indicator calibration.
pH Meter
pH isstzhject to sigafficant variations due to tem capacity of the water, and
eat drift For dfis reason pH meters must be-calilmatedbefore and after sampling on each..
day and at least once more during the day. To calibrate.a pH meter the insUment reading is =
adjusted to read correcdy for solutions with a standard pH.
Stan,dard solutions are mixed fresh, according to PackAge ' 'oris,-for each sampling event.
Standard solutions or povMers for pH 4,7, and 14 are le. These standards
P=hased and'discarded after shelf life Inas expired. Shelf lives vary depegding on the
brand of smndards used. if pre-prepared solution is Used.the=piradon ddft of the solution win
be noted on the calibration log.
Of PH met= vary, calibration PrOceduM are Sfintffilr for all of them.
A gencialized calibration pro follows:
l.
Turnon the kwurnent,check the ,and allow to wanii up if necessay.,
93949.FotM'a A-z +o++,,#,,,14,200
tw,
