Forward Landfill LFG Acoustical Analysis
May 18, 2011
1 INTRODUCTION AND SUMMARY
Page 1
Ameresco Forward LLC proposes to erect a gas -powered electrical energy generating
facility on the existing Forward Landfill near Manteca, CA. Because surrounding noise
sensitive uses are located within 2 miles of the project, the project proponent has
requested that noise emissions from the facility be evaluated relative to San Joaquin
County residential noise standards, 50 dB during the day and 45 dB at night (See
Appendix A). The project has been found to comply with the noise standards by a wide
margin.
2 PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Figure 1 is an aerial photo of the project area, showing the project location and the
nearest noise sensitive areas. The locations and elevations of the project and surrounding
uses are shown in Table 1.
Table 1. The Keller Canyon Site Plan is shown in Figure 5. Relative to the orientation
on the Forward site, North is rotated 1800 degrees to east. Note that the major noise
producing equipment is in an enclosed building.
The project consists of two gas -powered electrical generators, with associated pumping
and filtering equipment used to recover landfill gases. The major noise -producing
equipment — generators and positive displacement blowers - are located in sound -
attenuating enclosures and the generators are equipped with critical -grade exhaust
silencers to minimize noise. Manufacturers' noise emissions ratings for major pieces of
equipment are shown in Table 2
