FRENCH CAMP LANDFILL
WINTERIZATION 2012-2013
The French Camp Landfill (FCL) has completed closure, which primarily involved
the relocation of demolition wastes from perimeter slopes, placement of these
wastes within lower interior areas, and placement of soil foundation, barrier, and
vegetative layers of the approved final cover. As the 60 -acre closure area has
the potential for release of sediment to the adjacent French Camp and Walker
Sloughs, a Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) was prepared to
address potential releases. The SWPPP recommends best management
practices (BMPs) for FCL and establishes a monitoring program. The BMPs for
the site have been implemented and the monitoring program is being performed.
Stormwater is controlled at FCL through a series of drainage ditches. The
majority of drainage from the top deck of the closed landfill area flows to the large
sedimentation basin at the southeast corner of the site. Storm water runoff from
the perimeter slopes flows to the adjacent Walker and French Camp Sloughs via
four culvert inlets (as shown on Figure 3-1 from the SWPPP).
1. Reseeding and Erosion Control
Preservation of existing vegetation is performed as one of the BMPs in the
SWPPP. Routine inspections of the vegetative cover are performed. A
recent pre -rainy season inspection was completed and areas found to lack
necessary cover were hydro -seeded to control erosion. Presently, all
erosion has been addressed and will be policed throughout the wet
Fix -mil"
