Sampling Equipment
• j
Interim gas sampling probes were used to monitor subsurfaceases at the landfill
$ Perimeter.
Each probe consists of a S-foot long, Yx-inch diameter stainless steeli Y4-inch F Pe= with holes
gered every 2 inches at the bottom 18 niches-to allow for gascs'to migrate into the prober. A
pointed tip was welded to the cud of the probe for better penetration.
A ball valve a ad brass fitting were installed at the top of each probe to contain gas pressures and
facilitate instrument hook-up to the probe.The valves wereleft closed exc t d
- eP erring monitoring
or ' ent reading. Each probe is tagged with-a brass plate and identified as "GP-1" through
`°GP-10".
A GA-90 Landtcc Infra rcd Cray Analyzer was used to monitor methane, carbon.dioxide.(CO:),
and oxygen(Oa)levels at each probe location.The analyzer was calibrated for methane, COza and
02 prior to use in the field_Cahbration.logs are.included.in this report
Gas.Monitoring
Ambient air measuri:3nents of methane, oxygen, carbon dioxide; and barom }
e#ic pressure.Were .
taken at each gas probe location- Those readings were recorded and-the Znstr=ent° was
connected to the probe. 'The valve was opened and probc_gas pressure
measurements were taken
The probe was then. purged for. two. probe volumes. Readings-were then collected at
approximately 3.0- to 60-second inter'val's.'unti1._a stable reading was .obtained... These
measurements of methane, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and ambient barometric pressure were then
rcc°rded- Monitoring was also conducted at various locations in three building sites for the _
Presence of methane gas. Monitoring was conducted at the office trailer at the entrance to the
landfill, trailer boxes- at the service shop, aiid trailer boxes at the transfer building. These
locations were monitored for any gas pockets at the foundation and near any opening from the
floor such as piping hales,electrical conduits, or.floor cracks.
L'YSR ETERS
Lysimctczs were sampled using the following standard protocol:
1. Prior to sampling lysimetcrs,the pressure-vacuum equipment is checked-and cleaned.
849-FO A2314R323 A•12
2000 xkwdda.tar. lily 14,200
