Sampling Equipment
- l
Lnterxrn gas sampling probes were used to monitor subsurface gases at the landfill
Each probe consists of a
5-foot long, britt ;diameter stainless steel -Perimeter.
pi with /. tach hole
staggered every 2 inches at the bottom 18 inches.-to allow for gases-to migrate s
into the probes. e
poiwted tip was welded to the end of the probe for better penetration.
A ball valve and brass fitting were installed at the top of each probe to contain gas pressures and
facilitate instrumew hook-up to the probe. The valves were left closed a kcept during monitoring
or instrument reading .Each probe is tagged with a brass plate and identified as "GP-I" through
"GP-10.%
AGA-90 Landtec Infra-red-Gas Analyzer was used to monitor methane, carbon.dioxide.(CW,
and oxygen(02)levels at each probe location. The analyzer was calibrated for methane,COQ,and
OZ prior to use in the field-Calibradon_logs am.included.in thjsreporL-
Gas 11rMo3ritoring -
Ambient air measurements of methane, oxygen, carbon dioxide:; and barom
etpc pressure wem
® taken at each gas probe location- Those madings were accorded and the '
xustumeut° was
connected to the probe- Jhe valve was opened and Pmbc.•g s pressure measm-crnents were taken._
The probe was thea purged for. two probe volumes. These
measurements of methane, oxygen. carbon diaxide.,and ambiens barometric pressure v tre then -
recorded. Monitoring was also coarcted at vujous, locations in three building sites for the
Presence of methane gas. Monitoring was conducted at the office trailer at the entrance to the
landfill, trailer boxes at the service shop, and trailer boxes at the transfer building_ These
locations were monitored for any gas pockets at the foundation and near any opening from the:
floor such as piping holes, electrical conduits,or floor cracks.
LYSE S
Lysimcte;rs were sampled using the following standard protocol:
l- Prior to sampling lysimeters, the pressure-vacuum equipment is checked and cleaned.
23-483844-170 112310Rm A•12
® 2000 Kteta6ctda,tor. halt'l4,2040
