Water Quality Monitoring Report
Forward Landfill
2.1.7 Surface Water Monitoring
Site run-on/run-off control facilities are designed to effectively channel surface water to
site stormwater/sedimentation ponds. According to the Operations Manager, there
were no changes to run-on/run-off control and no discharges from the Forward Unit to
surface water were reporting during the period. During the monitoring period, surface
water monitoring stations FSW-1 (downstream) and FSW-2 (upstream) were reported
dry. Inspections for surface water were performed bimonthly by Del-Tech on April 15,
April 29, May 9, May 27, June, 13, and on June 27, 2016 for the second quarter 2016
monitoring period.
2.2 Summary
Groundwater quality conditions beneath the Forward Unit during the second quarter
2016 monitoring period are generally similar to those observed in previous monitoring
periods. A non-statistical indication of release was identified at wells MW-16 and MW-
17 as a result of one or more VOCs measured at quantifiable concentrations. For the
inorganic monitoring parameters, one or more CLs were exceeded at wells MW-2A,
MW-10, MW-18, MW-19, MW-22, and MW-24. Verification sampling for the organic
and inorganic CL exceedances is scheduled for July 2016. For constituent concentrations
in "tracking mode", increasing temporal trends were calculated for DIPE in well MW-16
and for carbon tetrachloride and chloroform in well MW-17. Surface water monitoring
stations were reported dry on multiple occasions during the monitoring period. For
vadose zone monitoring no VOCs were detected in the sample collected from lysimeter
LY-BG-1; all of the other lysimeters were reported dry or had an insufficient volume of
soil-pore liquid to sample.
3.0 AUSTIN UNIT
3.1 Water Quality Monitoring
3.1.1 Sampling;and Laboratory Analyses
Del-Tech performed routine monitoring of DMP, CAP, EMP wells at the Austin Unit
during the second quarter 2016 monitoring period. Depth-to-water measurements
were recorded in the groundwater monitoring wells between May 2 and 10, 2016;
samples were collected from all Austin Unit wells, domestic wells, and surface water
between May 2 and 10, 2016; and leachate sampling was performed on May 3, 2016.
Of note, surface water monitoring station ASW-2 was dry on multiple occasions during
the monitoring period.
Samples were collected from each sample point with sufficient liquid and submitted to
BC for analysis of the routine monitoring parameters stipulated in RWQCB Order No. 115-
2014-0006.
