a
Operational Summary - As shown in Table 1, between June 22 and September 27, 2017, the
CAP system treated approximately 21,897,500 gallons of groundwater at an average flow
rate of 229,868 gallons per day. During the third quarter 2017 monitoring period, it is
calculated that the GTF removed approximately 0.19 pounds of VOCs.
Del -Tech records indicate that the groundwater extraction and treatment system
experienced the following maintenance issues and periods of downtime during the third
quarter 2017:
• August 15, 2017: Del -Tech reported that well EW -4 was off-line and the breaker
would not reset. Del -Tech pulled the pump and determined that the pump motor
had failed. GLA notified the CVRWQCB of the pump failure. A replacement pump
was installed on August 22, 2017.
• August 15, 2017: Del -Tech removed the flow meters from all extraction wells for
annual calibration. The calibrated flow meters were re -installed on September 21,
2017.
Effluent Monitoring — During the monitoring period, effluent samples were collected
monthly and submitted for analysis of VOCs by EPA Method 8260B. Table 1 summarizes the
field and analytical results for the GTF during the third quarter 2017 monitoring period. As
shown on Table 1, treated effluent discharged into the infiltration pond contained trace
concentrations of up to four VOCs in the monthly effluent samples. In addition, cis-1,2-
dichloroethene and tetrachloroethene were consistently measured above the practical
quantitation limit during the third quarter monitoring event. Total VOC concentrations in
the effluent ranged from 1.75 lag/L to 3.15 µg/L during the monitoring period. Currently,
Forward is in the process of preparing design plans to convert to a granular activated carbon
treatment system to better remove VOCs from the groundwater.
GLA hopes that the information provided herein is sufficient for your records.
