least daily during heavy rainfall periods. Any necessary repairs will
be made as soon as possible. Ditches, straw mulch, temporary berms,
or other erosion control measures will be used as necessary to prevent
further erosion of soil cover until weather conditions permit repairs
to damaged areas.
Sealing cracks caused by settlement in the intermediate and final
cover and repairing any erosion damage resulting from extremely heavy
rainfall or wind will be the primary focus of the maintenance program.
Such action will be part of routine site operations to preclude prob-
lems associated with (1) leachate generation caused by surface -water
infiltration and (2) the presence of insects or rodents that could be
attracted by exposed wastes. As landfill areas are filled to final
grade, the final cover will be placed. The uppermost layer will be
top soil, fertilized and seeded to establish vegetation. A regular
maintenance program will be established in completed areas for proper
drainage of the fill surface, maintenance of the vegetative cover, and
preservation of the final soil cover.
PJ9 9390209A.00D 27
