One background groundwater monitoring well, G-1, exists at the NCRC&SL. The historical
analytical results are attached in Appendix B. G-1 exceeded the concentration limit for chloride
and nitrate during the last 3 quarters of sampling (fourth quarter 2003 and first and second
quarters 2004). The higher concentration found in this up gradient well could be a results of a
regional change in water quality.
5.5 SURROUNDING LAND AND GROUNDWATER USE
5.5.1 Land Use
Land use surrounding the landfill site is described in Chapter 2.
5.5.2 Groundwater Use
Groundwater use on and surrounding the property is agricultural applications and domestic use.
The location of wells in the vicinity of the landfill is shown in Appendix F. These wells also
included the County monitoring wells.
The California Department of Water Resources' DWR) files were reviewed in 2002 and
p (
included in the "Report of Waste Discharge Related to the Permitting and Installation of
Composite Landfill Liner System for Module 4 and Future Modules". This information is
included in Appendix F. The DWR files were reviewed again in August 2004 but no new
information was obtained during that review.
Thirty-eight wells were identified within 1 mile of the landfill site. Screened sections of these
wells varies between bottom depths of 100 feet to as deep as 700 feet. Seven of the wells appear
to be down gradient of the site (west-southwest). First encountered groundwater in the wells
varied between 100 feet and 168 feet below ground surface.
There are 8 wells on the landfill property. These include a domestic well located at the corner of
Atkins Road and Harney Lane (north of the Landfill entrance), an irrigation well on the east side
of the landfill, and 4 monitoring wells. In addition, a well of unknown use was shown near the
domestic well.
North County RC&SL Page 24 of 48 Public Works/Solid Waste
JTD County of San Joaquin—November 30,2004
