1 . Designated safety y persons shalt be qualified to insure compliance with <br /> requirements and safety concerns. <br /> 2. Safety procedures shall be documented and reviewed with all workers prior to <br /> the start of work. A safety plan should be maintained at the job site. <br /> 3. Scheduled meetings should be held to review the safety program. <br /> 4. Unsafe acts should be stopped if discovered. <br /> 5. Required safety equipment shall be on site, and shall be checked for <br /> completeness and function. <br /> 6. If Air _Purifying Respirators (APRs) are used, a written document should be <br /> prepared by each employer which describes the standard operating procedures <br /> governing selection and use of respirators, medical examination and approval, <br /> fit testing, respirator inspection, cleaning and disinfecting, repair, and storage. <br /> 7. All employees who may be required to wear respirators should be fit-tested and <br /> trained in the proper use of respirators. <br /> 8. Appropriate local authorities (fire department, air quality, etc.) should be <br /> notified prior to drilling, trenching, or flaring, etc. i <br /> 9. Contracts for LFG testing, construction, or operation should include a safety <br /> procedures clause. <br /> G. SAFETY EQUIPMENT <br /> Workers engaged in construction or maintenance of LFG facilities should wear <br /> protective safety equipment as follows: <br /> 1 . Hard hats, if near moving or mechanical equipment, or if working in confined <br /> spaces or where overhead hazards may exist (e.g., in excavations or around <br /> scaffolding). <br /> 2. Steel-toed, shoes or rubber boots. <br /> 3. Safety glasses and/or face shields, as appropriate- <br /> 4 Protective gloves if working with wet solid waste or where exposure to <br /> leachate or condensate is expected.
