10. Covers for excavations that will remain open at the end of the day- <br /> 1 1 . Air-moving equipment that can provide ventilation if working in substandard air <br /> environments (trenches, condensate drain pits, etc.)_ <br /> 12. Fire-resistant blanket suitable for extinguishing a small fire or to provide heat <br /> to personnel in shock. <br /> 13. Construction equipment equipped with vertical exhaust or spark arrestors if <br /> within 2 feet of grade. <br /> 14. Flagging, traffic markers, and fluorescent orange safety vests for use when <br /> working around operating equipment or near public roadways. <br /> H. PERSONAL HEALTH AND HYGIENE <br /> 1 . Personal safety and the safety of fellow workers require that all employees <br /> arrive at the job and remain mentally alert. No alcohol or drugs are permitted. <br /> Smoking should be prohibited or limited on the landfill site. No worker should <br /> handle excavated solid waste without wearing gloves. Parts of the body <br /> accidentally exposed to waste, leachate, or condensate should be washed <br /> immediately with soap and water. Eating meals on the landfill should be <br /> discouraged. <br /> 2. Any cut or abrasion shall be treated immediately by a qualified professional <br /> health practitioner, as the chance of infection is high when working on a <br /> landfill. A tetanus shot is recommended at specified intervals for all personnel <br /> involved in site construction/testing activities. <br /> 3. Workers should avoid contact with hazardous plants, or those known or <br /> suspected to be hazardous, growing on the landfill. <br /> 4. Animals, snakes, spiders, and other insects should be avoided, especially <br /> around vaults and vault boxes. First aid supplies should include a snake bite <br /> kit. If unusual flora or fauna are expected, they should be identified as <br /> potential hazards in the site safety plan. Antidotes and/or medication should <br /> be maintained for persons with severe allergies. <br /> 5. The address, telephone number, and location map o: the nearest hospital and <br /> medical emergency room should be prominently posted.
