U
Table 02771.2
Properties for Textured HDPE Geomembrane
Notes:
1. The results obtained from D5994 will be an average of all readings taken, this result must meet or exceed the specified value for
minimum average thickness. In addition, all individual readings taken to obtain the average cannot be less the specified average
thickness requirement.
2. Other methods such as D4218 (muffle furnace) or microwave methods are acceptable if an appropriate correlation to D1603 (tube
furnace) can be established.
3. Carbon black content is only measured on the black backing of the white -surfaced geomembrane, if applicable. Prior to measuring
the carbon black content, the white surface shall be scrapped or ground off to avoid misrepresentative results in the final result.
Contact the manufacturer for an approved method of testing.
4. Carbon black dispersion for 10 different views: All 10 in Categories 1 or 2
5. The manufacturer has the option to select either of the OIT methods listed to evaluate the antioxidant content in the geomembrane.
6. The condition of the test shall be 20 -hr UV cycle at 75 deg. C followed by 4 -hr. condensation at 60 deg. C.
7. UV resistance is based on percent retained value regardless of the original HP-OIT value.
0:%an Joaquin CountyWCRCSL11312301pina1 - Desi9n Mod 51Tech SpeWNCRCSL_TS_Module 5-Fina1-Rev_doc-00:
SHAW ENVIRONMENTAL, INC.
"Rev. 1, 09/03/09
High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) Geomembrane
02771-12
Test
Test
Property
Designation
Requirement
Fre uency
Minimum Average Thickness, mils (1)
ASTM D5994
60
Each Roll
Lowest Individual Thickness, mils 1
55
Each Roll
Asperity Height, mils
GRI GM12
20
Every 2nd Roll
Both Sides Tested
Density (min avg,), g/cm2
ASTM D1505
0.940
200,000 Ib
Tensile Properties (min avg.) both directions
ASTM D6693
• Yield strength, Ib/in-width
126
20,000 Ib
• Break strength, Ibfin-width
120
20,000 Ib
• Yield elongation, %
1.3" GL
12
20,000 Ib
• Break elongation, %
2.0" GL
100
20,000 Ib
Tear Resistance (min avg.), lbs.
ASTM D1004
42
45,000 Ib
Puncture Resistance (min avg.), lbs.
ASTM D4833
120
45,000 Ib
Carbon Black Content (range), % (2), (3)
ASTM D1603
2.0-3.0
20,000 Ib
Carbon Black Dispersion
ASTM D5596
Note (5)
45,000 Ib
SP-NCTL, hrs minimum, 5 of 5 specimens)
ASTM D5397
>300
Once Per Resin Lot
Oxidative Induction Time (OJT) (min avg) (5)
200,000 Ib
Standard OIT, minutes
ASTM D3895
100
OR
High Pressure OIT, minutes
ASTM D5885
400
Oven Aging at 85 deg.
