In order to determine the dissolved concentrations of the compounds
specified, appropriate field filtration techniques will be implemented
by attaching a disposable acrylic copolymer filter directly to the
pump effluent line with a high-pressure fitting. As the bladder pump
cycles, the effluent will be pressured through the filter and directed
into the appropriate containers. Each filter will be used only once
and then discarded.
When a Teflon bailer is used to collect ground-water samples, filtra-
tion will be preformed by emptying the contents of the bailer into a
high-pressure transfer vessel . A disposable acrylic copolymer filter
will be threaded onto the transfer vessel at the discharge point, and
the vessel will be sealed. Pressure will be applied to the transfer
vessel with a hand pump, and the filtrate will be directed into the
appropriate containers. Filters will be discarded after each use.
One field blank and one trip blank (bottle blank) made with organic-
free water will be carried into the field and delivered with the
samples to the laboratory. The field blank will be opened in the
field during sample collection to detect any influences from the
ambient atmosphere on sample quality. The trip blank will remain with
the bottles used for sampling for the duration of the sampling event.
At no time will the trip blank be uncapped. A trip blank provides a
check on bottle-cleaning procedures. . One duplicate well sample will
also be collected and analyzed for all parameters.
All sampling containers will be prelabeled with preservatives informa-
tion prior to initiating the sampling event. The labels will be
completed during sample collection. Containers will be placed on ice
immediately upon sampling until delivery to the laboratory.
At the time of sampling, the sample will be logged on a chain-of-
custody form, which will accompany the sample to the laboratory. At
the laboratory, EMCON personnel will accept the samples by signing the
PJ9 9390313.000 B-7
