u
7
The total analysis will measure the sum of the compounds distributed
in the soil -pore liquid and that absorbed onto the soil. This will
provide a conservative evaluation of site leakage.
Two unsaturated zone sample depths have been selected for soil charac-
terization to best comply with the SWAT regulations: (1) 20 feet in
the shallow borings and (2) 20 and 200 feet in the deep borings.
Two soil samples for laboratory analysis were collected from depths of
20 and 200 feet in Boring MW -1. The samples were analyzed for vola-
tile, semivolatile and nonvolatile organic compounds and chlorinated
pesticides. With one exception, none of these compounds were detect-
ed. The soil sample collected at a depth of 200 feet was reported to
contain 12 micrograms per liter (µg/1) toluene. This is an anomalous
result, since toluene was not detected in the shallow soil sample or
in the ground -water sample from Well MW -1. The reported detection of
toluene is not thought to be significant (EMCON Associates, 1988).
This concludes the SWAT proposal for the Corral Hollow Sanitary
Landfill. References, figures, and appendices follow Part 2 of this
document.
16
Mon Associates
