If a well has not recharged within the 24-hour
period, it will be recorded as dry for the sampling event.
During the purging operation, purged water will be monitored at an
approximate frequency of one set of measurements per casing volume
removed for temperature, pH, or specific conductance. Prior to
collecting samples for laboratory analysis, these parameters must be
stabilized to verify that a representative sample will be collected;
that is, two consecutive sets of field measurements must be similar.
Purged water is stabilized when (1) pH is within ±0.5 pH units,
(2) conductance is within 5%, or (3) temperature is within 1.0°F. All
records of the above data will be kept in a waterproof field notebook.
Plate B-1 shows an example of the water sample field data sheet.
Copies of the field data sheets will be reviewed by the sampling
coordinator after the sampling event is completed. The pH, electrical
conductivity, and tempe
prior to initiating field activities. The calibration will be checked
once each day to verify meter performance.
After the calculated purge volume has been removed and the pH, conduc-
tance, or temperature has stabilized, samples will be collected. With
as little interruption in pumping rates as possible, the pump effluent
will be directed into appropriate containers. The pump flow will be
regulated when collecting samples for volatile organic analysis. The
flow will be set to approximately 100 milliliters per minute to
minimize turbulence and aeration of the pump effluent. If insuffi-
cient water is present or the total depth is too great in the well for
the pump to function properly, ground -water samples will be collected
with a bottom -filling bailer constructed of Teflon.
Sample bottles for volatile organics analysis will be filled complete-
ly to prevent any air from remaining in the bottle.
