3.0 AMBIENT AIR QUALITY
3. 1 SAMPLING LOCATIONS
Ambient air was sampled on February 17, and March 2 and 3, 1988
according to the workplan and protocol presented in the ASWAT proposal
(see Appendix A) . Two 24-hour ambient air sampling devices were
placed on the perimeter of the site; one downwind (on the south side
of the site) and one upwind (on the north side of the site) . These
locations (Figure 1) were selected based on the site topography,
meteorological data, and land use pattern. In addition, a wind
directionally controlled ambient air sampler was placed immediately
adjacent to each 24-hour sampler.
The locations of the upwind and downwind ambient air sampling devices
were adjusted from those proposed in the workplan based on observation
of wind conditions by the EMCON technician and the landfill operator
at the time of sampling.
3.2 SAMPLING EQUIPMENT
The equipment used to monitor ambient air quality is described in the
ASWAT proposal (see Appendix A) .
3.3 SAMPLING AND ANALYSIS PROCEDURES
Twelve ambient air samples were collected over three 24-hour periods
beginning on February 17, and March 2 and 3, 1988. Sampling was not
performed on consecutive days following February 17, 1988 due to
excessive wind speed conditions. High wind speeds exceeding the
15 miles per hour (mph) average criterium proposed in the workplan
were encountered on February 18, 1988. Testing was therefore resumed
on March 2, 1988. Lower wind speeds (less than 10 mph average over
the 24-hour period) were observed during sampling on March 2 and
March 3, 1988.
PJ9 9390304.00D 3-1 Rev. 0 09/20/88
