4.0 GAS MIGRATION
The Guidelines require that ASWAT studies provide sufficient screening
information to assess off-site gas migration. EMCON obtained this
information by sampling gas probes near the site's perimeter and ana-
lyzing the samples. This section describes the probe locations, probe
details, sampling equipment, and sampling and analysis procedures, and
analytical results.
4.1 SAMPLING LOCATIONS
t the equivalent of one as robe for each
The Guidelines require tha h q g p
1,000 feet of site perimeter be installed near the site perimeter.
The Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill has a perimeter of about
5,500 feet; therefore, six probes were used near the site's perimeter
to test for off-site underground gas migration. These probes were
installed for the ASWAT program (see Figure I for probe locations) .
The locations of probes along the perimeter were based on the level of
off-site commercial or residential development. Since no buildings
are immediately adjacent to the site, the six probes were installed
evenly along the site perimeter.
4.2 PROBE DETAILS
The probe construction details are presented in Appendix C.
4.3 SAMPLING EQUIPMENT
The sampling equipment was the same as that used for the landfill gas
well testing (see Appendix A) .
PJ9 9390304.00D 4-1 Rev. 0 09/20/88
