6.2 AMBIENT AIR QUALITY
Benzene, methylene chloride, tetrachloroethylene, carbon tetrachlo-
ride, 1,1,1 -trichloroethane, trichloroethylene, and chloroform were
detected in one or more ambient air samples. Benzene, carbon tetro-
chloride, and chloroform concentrations were below their respective
regulatory detection limits.
Sample AA -13 was possibly contaminated by infiltration of methylene
chloride and 1,1,1 -trichloroethane into the Tedlar bag during sampling
and analysis activities. Ambient air samples collected on March 2 and
3, 1988 have higher methylene chloride concentrations than the Febru-
ary 17, 1988 data. Examination of field blank data indicates
methylene chloride was also detected in the March 2 and 3 field blank
samples.
All six probes were located within 50 feet of the fill area. Methane
concentrations in Probes P-2 through 0-5 in the southern perimeter of
the landfill ranged from 0.0002 percent by volume (2 ppm) to 0.4 per-
cent by volume. Probes P-1 and P-6, near the entrance of the land-
fill, showed higher levels of methane, 50 and 30 percent by volume,
respectively, indicating a potential for off-site gas migration.
PJ9 9390304.00D 6-2 Rev. 0 09/20/88
