u
QUALITY ASSURANCE PROGRAM
The objectives of the Quality Assurance Program (QAP) are to obtain
accurate, precise, and complete data which can be used with a high level
of confidence. The definitions for precision, accuracy, and complete-
ness are as follows (quoted from EPA's Draft Supplement to QAMS-005/80,
dated January 1986):
• Precision - A measure of mutual agreement among individual
measurements of the same property, usually under prescribed
similar conditions. Usually expressed in terms of the
standard deviation.
• Accuracy - The degree of agreement of a measurement with an
accepted referenced or true value.
■ Completeness - The amount of valid data obtained from a
measurement system compared to the amount that was expected
and needed to be obtained to meet the project data goals.
In this section, the components of the QAP for ASWAT activities at the
Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill are described. First, the equipment to
be used is listed, then specific equipment and sampling procedures for
each phase of testing are presented in the Sampling Methods Section.
Finally, field quality control recordkeeping, sampling custody, and
laboratory QA/QC protocol are discussed.
SAMPLING METHODS
Equipment List
The following equipment will be used in the field to acquire the appro-
priate testing data. The ambient air sampling devices, and the inte-
grated surface walk and well sampling device (Figures 4 and 5) were
fabricated by EMCON using components equivalent to those recommended in
the Guidelines. The remainder of the field equipment consists of
standard off-the-shelf items.
PJI 9390301 8
