The locations of these borings is shown on Plate 2.
® B. Permeability Tests
Laboratory testing was performed on soil samples encountered
during the geologic investigation. Samples for permeability
tests were collected with a modified California Sampler lined
with 6 -inch by 1.92 -inch internal diameter brass cylinders. The
relatively undisturbed sample was extruded in the laboratory,
enclosed in a latex jacket, and trimmed to a length of three
inches. The sample is then placed in a triaxial shear machine
and placed under appropriate hydraulic head dependent on material
type, to obtain permeability results. The triaxial chamber is
pressurized to values above the exerted head to promote a tight
seal between the latex jacket and sample. A tight jacket seal
minimizes the likelihood of flow channels developing between the
jacket and the sample. The hydraulic head on the sample is
maintained until the flow rate through the sample stabilizes.
The above test is based on an adaptation of the constant head
permeability test as outline in Soil Testing for engineers by T.
William Lamb. Work sheets from the permeability tests are
included in Appendix A of this report.
-- IV. EXISTING HYDROGEOLOGIC INFORMATION
A. Information from Proposed Community of Carne ie Information
J.H. Kleinfelder & Associates was retained to look into the
potential for obtaining an on-site ground water supply for the
Carnegie project. During the course of this investigation,
published reports and existing information were reviewed, and
field investigations were conducted to determine the water -
bearing characteristics of the sediments beneath the proposed
site. The following discussion on ground water in the area is
excerpted from the Kleinfelder report, "Proposed Community of
Carnegie, Corral Hollow Road and Interstate 580 near Tracy,
California," dated September 30, 1981:
