' 1.1 LOCATION
' The Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill is located approximately 5 miles southwest of the
City of Tracy in western San Joaquin County, California (see Figure 1). The site is
' accessed from Corral Hollow Road, a two-lane paved road. The site consists of an
approximately 43 acre parcel within Section 18, Township 3 South, Range 5 East,
' Mount Coast Base and Meridian. The site lies within parcel 5 and 6 on page 253-03 of
the San Joaquin County Assessors maps.
1.2 BACKGROUND
' The Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill has been in operation since the mid- to late -1950's
as a refuse and burn disposal site. Burning continued at the site into the mid-1970's. A
' gravel quarry was operated at this site before development as a landfill. The site was
expanded between 1959 and 1965 by approximately 30 acres to include the land
' curently being used for refuse disposal. The current landfill area is located entirely on
the south side of Interstate 580(Drawing 1).
1.3 PREVIOUS INVESTIGATIONS
' Several previous studies have been conducted which provide important site-specific
information. In May 1970,the California Department of Resources (DWR) studied the
' hydrology and water quality at the landfill. The findings were published in a
memorandum entitled Data Request for Tracy Sanitary Landfill. San Joaquin County (
' DWR, May 20, 1970). A geologic investigation of the site was conducted in 1985 by
J. H. Kleinfelder and Associates and reported in Geologic Investigation. Corral Hollow
' Sanitary Landfill, San Joaquin County (J. H. Kleinfelder and Associates, 1985).
EMCON has conducted several previous studies at the site in addition to the SWAT
proposal work, including a ground-water exploration program in January 1988 and a
' closure and postclosure study in February, 1988.
1
STL 9390314 3 Rev. 0 06/30/88
' mon Associates
