' radius of the site consists of gently rolling hills ranging from elevation of 200 feet mean
sea level (MSL) along the Delta-Mendota Canal to 600 feet MSL along the base of the
' Coast Range. The elevation of the landfill site ranges from approximately 250 to 300
feet.
' Corral Hollow Creek is an ephemeral stream and drains s the area Just south of the
' landfill.
' 2.3 GEOLOGY
2.3.1 Geologic Map
A site plan showing surficial geologic units is shown in Figure 2. Geologic cross
' sections showing lithology and stratigraphic relationships are presented in Drawings 2
and 3.
' 2.3.2 Regional Geology
The Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill lies in the west-central part of the Central Valley of
' California, a topographic and structural trough bounded on the east by the Sierra
Nevada block and on the west by the folded and faulted Coast Ranges. These
' topographic features have contributed up to 30,000 feet of valley sediments since the
Jurassic period(135 to 181 million years ago).
The San roughly JoaquinY P g Y Valley, which comprises the southern two-thirds of the
' Central Valley of California, is divided into five geomorphic units: (1) Coast Range,
(2) dissected upland, (3) low alluvial plains and fans, (4) river flood plains and
channels, and(5) overflow lands and lake bottoms.
The Coast Range unit consists of the consequent ridges and foothills of the Coast
' Range parallel to the axis of the San Joaquin Valley.
' The dissected uplands unit consists of deeply eroded old stream terraces in the form of
STL 9390314 5 Rev. 0 06/30/88
' Mon Associates
