following categories for separating and sorting:
• Curbside vehicle loads and paper rich commercial vehicle loads will be sorted on
sorting lines.
• Commercial vehicle loads rich in a single non-paper recyclable and self-haul
vehicle loads rich in a single recyclable will be unloaded in designated areas on
the tipping floor and sorted.
• All other commercial and self-haul vehicle loads will be sorted on the tipping
floor.
• Concentrated loads or recyclable papers or other materials will be processed by
baling without sorting.
Sorting on the sorting line will be by pickers on both sides of the conveyor to ensure that
materials which are recyclable are efficiently removed. The recovered materials are dropped
into storage bays or bins located beneath the sorting line. As bays are filled, the recovered
materials are directed to storage areas or to the baling pit. All residual waste left on the sorting
conveyor after picking is directed to the top loading area for loading and transport to the landfill.
The self-haul buy back center will not accept unseparated loads. No sorting will take place at
the buy back center.
(2) Storage of Salvaggd or Recyclable Materials
Glass and aluminum recovered will be stored in roll-off containers or bunkers. Baled cardboard,
paper, aluminum cans and plastic bottles will be stored until there is enough material to fill a
flatbed truck either by volume or weight. Recovered compostable wood material will be
temporarily stored and moved to the composting facility. Salvageable wood material not suitable
for composting will be stored for transport off-site.
L:/PROJECT/397/hIRF/RSI-1.TCY
Revision 1.0 35 December 15, 1993
