M. COMPOSTINGFA CH= OPERATIONS
The Composting Facility and MRF/Transfer Station will be located on the same site and will
share support facilities, personnel, and equipment. The Composting Facility and the
MRF/Transfer Station will use the same site entrance.
A. WIRODUMON
The Composting Facility will process various green wastes and wood wastes. Various products,
including mulches, landscaping materials, co-generation fuel, composts, soil amendments, and
other related products, will be produced.
Depending upon the availability, some animal manures, pumice, or other organic material may
be composted to improve the quality of the finished compost products.
Material handling will be accomplished with trucks, roll-off containers, front-end loaders and
conveyors. Size-reduction of materials will be accomplished with an industrial-size tub grinder.
Screening for various products and contaminants will be accomplished with an industrial screen
and magnetic separation system. An aerobic windrow composting system will utilize a self-
propelled window turner.
Various processing operations will be conducted based on the type of waste material to be
processed and the finished product to be produced. For example, not all wood waste will be
composted. A portion of the wood wastes will be ground and screened for mulches, chips, co-
generation fuel and other related products not requiring the composting process.
The Compost Facility plans to operate up to 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. The facility
will accept commercial loads between 4:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and self-haul loads between 6:00
a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Equipment such as the tub grinder will not be operated during hours that may
disturb nearby residents.
B. FAC HJTY PERSONNEL
1. AVARABILrrY
The following personnel will be utilized at the Composting Facility only on a full-time or part-
time basis depending on material flows. Some personnel will be shared with the MRF Transfer
L:/PR0JECr/397/NW/RC14.TCY December 15, 1993
19
