We believe this shear strength is achievable with proper selection and testing of the
textured LLDPE geomembrane, GDN, geotextile, and soil components of the liner
systems. However, it is important that the weakest interface shear strength be verified
using direct shear testing for each of the possible interfaces in the liner system. This will
consist of testing the soil to geocomposite drainage net, geocomposite drainage net to
textured LLDPE, and textured LLDPE to soil interfaces. Technical specifications that
will be developed for the construction of the final cover will provide testing
requirements. If test results fall below the values specified above, the affected sections
will be re-analyzed to determine the effect.
The liner shear strength verification should be performed during selection of the various
liner materials. Also, conformance testing should be performed before installation, using
materials to be actually used in construction.
4.3 Interpretation of Interface Strength Data
The following procedure is recommended while evaluating the measured shear strength
test data:
• If the measured large-displacement shear strength (corresponding to 3-inch shear
displacement) at the normal load is at or greater than that specified in the previous
section, the test results is acceptable.
• If the measured large-displacement shear strength at the normal load is less than those
specified in the previous section, the test result is not acceptable.
LIMITATIONS
The services described in this report were performed consistent with generally accepted
professional consulting principles and practices. No other warranty, expressed or implied, is
made. These services were performed consistent with our agreement with our client. This report
is solely for the use and information of our client unless otherwise noted. Any reliance on this
report by a third parry, with the exception of any regulatory agencies with jurisdiction over this
landfill, is at such parry's sole risk.
Opinions and recommendations contained in this report apply to conditions existing when
services were performed and are intended only for the client, purposes, locations, time frames,
and project parameters indicated. We are not responsible for the impacts of any changes in
environmental standards, practices, or regulations subsequent to performance of services.
