Table 2
Temporary Well Construction Information
Well IDI, Ground Surface Total Depth Screen Interval
Elevation (msl) (ft)
MW-9 296.92 91.5 70-90
MW-10 286.33 76.5 65-75
MW-11 283.27 76.5 64.5-74.5
After the temporary wells were constructed, the water levels were allowed to
equilibrate for five days to allow measurement of static water levels.
4.3.2 Temporary Well Sampling
To assess the distribution of VOCs in groundwater, grab samples were collected from
each of the three temporary wells on October 13 and 19, 2011, using disposable
polyethylene bailers. Because temporary well MW-9 exhibited slower recharge, it was
sampled on October 19, 2011. The bailers were lowered down the temporary well
casing using nylon twine. Once filled, the bailers were retrieved, and a bottom-
emptying device was inserted into the bottom of the bailer to transfer the water into
laboratory-supplied 40-milliliter (ml) VOAs with hydrochloric acid preservative. The
filled VOAs were capped and then inverted to check for air bubbles, labeled, and then
placed in a chilled cooler. After all samples were collected, the chain-of-custody form
was completed, and the cooler was delivered to the laboratory courier for transport to
the laboratory.
4.3.3 Phase I Analytical Results
Samples from the temporary wells were analyzed for VOCs by United States
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Method 8260B. The results are summarized
below, and the analytical results and chain-of-custody documentation are presented in
Appendix C.
Table 3
Phase I Preliminary Analytical Results
VOC Concentrations From Samples Taken October 13 and 19, 2011(µg/[_)
Dichlorodifluoromethane Tetrachloroethene Trichlorofluoromethane
Well ID (DCDFM), (PCE) (TC FM) Total VOC
MW-9 2.1 0.32(trace) 0.61 3.03
MW-10 0.21(trace) 0.66 0.22(trace) 1.09
MW-11 2.8 1 1.6 1 0.16(trace) 4.56
Notes: A trace concentration is one measured between the laboratory's Method Detection Limit(MDL)and
Practical Quantitation Limit(PQL).
