with clean soil from the borrow area(Photo 5). CQA staff inspected the subgrade surface prior
to placement of the geofabrics.
Seven landfill gas (LFG)wells were drilled between June 10 and June 13, 2013. These wells
were connected to the existing LFG header pipe after the installation of the geofabrics (Photos 3
' and 4).
Placement of geofabrics began on or about July 9, 2013 (Photos 7 and 8). Each seam of the
' LLDPE membrane was pressure-tested to ensure water tightness (Photo 9). Two samples were
collected from each seam for destructive testing to measure the strength of the weld(Photo 10
and Appendix). In situations where the topography of the site required complex seaming, a
' larger"patch"piece was welded into the location where a confluence of other pieces would
make welding difficult. Placement of geofabrics and vegetative soil was completed by August 9,
2013.
Penetrations through the geomembrane, such as for the LFG wells, was accomplished by
installing a boot and skirt around the penetrating pipe(Photo 11). The skirt of the boot was
welded to the surrounding geomembrane, providing an uninterrupted seal.
Drainage improvements included the installation of a drainage ditch, which was concrete-lined in
accordance with Caltrans' requirements. This lined ditch will carry storm water entering the site
from across Corral Hollow Road, around the closure area, for delivery to the retention pond on
site (Photos 15 and 16), which was the drainage path prior to this project.
Fencing was installed from August 6 through 9, 2013 enclosing the Caltrans property and project
area on County property(Photo 16).
tDisturbed areas will be hydroseeded in October or when conditions are suitable for seed growth.
' Brief Technical Certification Report 3 Department of Public Works/Solid Waste
Corral Hollow Closure Cap Extension County of San Joaquin—September 6,2013
