Non-Water Release Corrective Action Plan
Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill
Site-specific seismic parameters included are the distances to the nearest, active causative
faults, MCE magnitudes, and expected peak ground accelerations based on an attenuation
relationships for sites with similar soil conditions.
TABLE 1
MAXIMUM CREDIBLE EARTHQUAKE
SEISMIC PARAMETERS FOR ACTIVE FAULTS (BLAKE, 2004)
APPROXIMATE DISTANCE MCE MOMENT PEAK GROUND
FAULT FROM FAULT TO SITE(MILES) MAGNITUDE ACCELERATION,(GRAVITY)
Great Valley 7* 0.7 6.9** 0.43
Greenville 9.2 6.9 0.12
Calaveras 23.1 6.9 0.09
Hayward 26.0 6.9 0.08
Ortigalita 29.2 7.1 0.08
Concord 33.1 6.7 0.06
Monte Vista-Shannon 37.9 6.7 0.07
. San Andreas 44.9 7.9 0.09
Notes: *Great Valley 7 Fault is composed of the Black Butte Fault,Midway Fault, and San Joaquin Faults.
**Based on the Ellsworth Magnitude,2008 National Seismic Hazard Maps-Fault Parameters.
The Great Valley 7 Fault is considered to have the most significant effect on the site from a
design standpoint (Table 1). From a deterministic approach (which calculates the maximum site
acceleration assuming that the nearest fault breaks nearest to the site), using an attenuation
relationship from Boore, et. al. 1997 for a VS30 of 750 m/s (Shaw, 2011), the MCE event on
these faults is expected to produce a horizontal Probable Ground Acceleration (PGA) at the site
of 0.438.
Using the newer attenuation relationships of the Next Generation of Attenuation (NGA)
Relationship Project in 2008 (Abrahamson, et.al, 2008, Boore, et. al, 2008, Campbell, et.al,
2008, and Chiou, et. al, 2008), and considering the faults, distance to the site, and site-specific
configurations; a PGA of 0.528 is calculated for the Great Valley 7 Fault. A shear wave velocity
(V130) of the upper 30 meters of the site was taken to be 760 m/s for the underlying rock
materials at the site (Shaw, 2011 and USGS, 2013).
Review of previous data indicates that the seismic characterization of the site by Shaw (2011)
• utilized a PGA of 0.568.
5 Geo-Logic
ASSOCIATES
