Non-Water Release Corrective Action Plan
Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill
• The sediments below the Corcoran Formation are dry until the deep aquifer is encountered at
depths of over 300 feet. The deep aquifer is found at an elevation of approximately -45 to -57
feet (MSL), at a depth from approximately 300 to 350 below the surface. Groundwater flows in
the deep aquifer to the northeast.
2.2 SURFACE WATER HYDROLOGY
The CHSL is bound to the west by the Diablo Mountain Range and to the east by the San
Joaquin Valley flatlands. The landfill is located adjacent to Corral Hollow Creek (to the south)
which is fed from the mountains to the west and flows to the lower valley to the east.
Due to the location of the landfill, run-on from the west is diverted into the Corral Hollow Creek
or to the western retention basin on-site and run-on from the north reaches the site through a
culvert crossing Corral Hollow Road, and is diverted along Corral Hollow Road to the west.
Run-off from the landfill is diverted into mid-slope drainage benches and perimeter ditches
which direct flow into the western or eastern stormwater retention basins. The western
retention basin collects run-off from the top deck, southern top slopes (to the mid-slope
• bench), and western side slope areas. The eastern retention basin collects run-off from the
northern slope and southern and eastern lower side slope areas.
3.0 LANDFILL CONFIGURATION
This section of the NWCAP describes the existing landfill environmental control systems and
surface water control systems.
3.1 LANDFILL GAS MIGRATION MONITORING AND CONTROL SYSTEM
The CHSL has a perimeter landfill gas migration monitoring system that consists of 9 soil gas
wells (GW-1 through GW-9) and a landfill gas control system that constists of 51 landfill gas
extraction wells (EW-1 through EW-51). The landfill gas control system also includes various
laterals, headers, condensate sumps, and a flare station.
3.2 GROUNDWATER MONITORING SYSTEM
The groundwater monitoring network consists of 6 monitoring wells: four monitoring the
shallow aquifer perched on the Corcoran clay layer east of the CHSL, and two monitoring the
. deep aquifer.
3 Geo-Logic
ASSOCIATES
