This revision addresses the comments in your
letter dated 13 March 2007 and other comments received in conversations since then.
This revised Plan shows the installation of a second permanent groundwater well MW -9 near soil
gas well GW -6. This location is tentative, and assumes that the shallow aquifer is present there. It
may be important that, unlike GW -2 where the deep probe is submerged, none of the probes at
GW -6 are submerged, which we would expect if the Corcoran aquitard did not extend this far west.
The hydropunching work in that area should reveal the extent of that aquitard, and we will install
MW -9 accordingly unless it would be so close to MW -4 as to not yield additional information.
Per your letter and as discussed, we propose a number of temporary groundwater wells, six of
which would be in surrounding neighboring properties. These locations are also tentative,
especially for the southern well in the properties to the east. A cursory walk of that property
indicates the presence of the old Tracy burn dump. We do not wish to drill through refuse ash lest
we cavy burned residue into the shallow aquifer.
Installation of the temporary wells is contingent on permission to access these properties by the
property owners. The County Special Projects Division has sent a formal request to the owners of
both properties. We have not yet received permission to access those properties. The revised
schedule reflects the additional work requested and the tentative nature of certain critical path
items.
Please let me know if this Plan is acceptable, and
any questions, please call me (209) 468-8504.
Sincerely,
W. MICHAEL CARROLL, PE
Senior Civil Engineer
I will authorize Shaw to proceed.
