r
3.05 Collecting vadose zone soil gas and hydropunch samples
A. Three vadose zone soil gas samples will be collected in each of the off-site
borings (Figures 1 and 2). The depths of the samples will be determined in the
field by on the on-site geologist.
B. Hydropunch groundwater samples will be collected from the shallow water -
bearing zone in the three offsite borings locations described above.
C. The borings will be advanced to the shallow water -bearing zone and a water
sample will be collected by driving a hydropunch or similar in-situ sampling
device into the shallow aquifer.
D. The borings for the soil gas and hydropunch samples shall be sealed in
accordance with Section 3.03 J and K.
E. Soil cuttings generated from drilling of the off site soil borings shall be
transported by the Contractor to the landfill using a combination of a hopper and
off road fork lift. Contractor personnel shall provide proof of fork lift training
prior to the start of field work.
3.06 SURFACE COMPLETION
A. A concrete pad, 3 -foot by 3 -foot by 6 -inch thick, shall be constructed at the
ground surface around the protective steel surface casing. The concrete shall be
sloped away from the protective casing to promote surface drainage from the
well.
B. The Contractor will install the first is a 5/8 -inch diameter, 6 -inch long zinc or
cadmium plated carriage bolt in the concrete near the base of the protective
casing. This bolt will used by the County as a permanent survey monument.
C. Contractor shall inscribe the name of the well into the concrete pad.
D. The protective casing shall be painted yellow with a rust inhibited metallic paint.
E. Three steel traffic guard posts (minimum 2 -inch diameter) shall be equally spaced
around the well. The posts shall be installed by the Contractor in mounting
sleeves, such that the posts can be removed for well access. The mounting
sleeves shall be installed in concrete filled postholes approximately 1.5 -feet below
the ground surface.
F. The Contractor shall drill a drainage hole into the protective casing. The drainage
hole shall be positioned approximately two inches above ground surface. The
Contractor shall paint the protective casing and guard posts with a rust -preventive
colored paint at the completion of the entire project.
Corral Hollow EMP WPlan Rev2Mar 22-07.
