The investigation envisioned will include the following activities:
• Installation of one or more additional shallow aquifer monitoring wells.
• Drilling three hydropunch shallow aquifer sampling points and multi-level vadose
zone sampling points across and running parallel to Highway 580 to the northeast of
the landfill.
• Drilling three hydropunch shallow aquifer sampling points and multi-level vadose
zone sampling points across and running parallel to Corral Hollow.
• Drilling three hydropunch shallow aquifer sampling points multi-level vadose zone
sampling points along the southeast boundary of the landfill, within the landfill
property.
A corrective action response was developed to mitigate the impacts envisioned under the
hypothetical release scenario. The extent and complexity of the corrective action
response is proportional to the environment threat of the release and is consistent with the
type and magnitude of corrective action mandated by the RWQCB at the time this
document was prepared.
The corrective action envisioned is based on the following assumptions and premises:
1. The focus of the corrective action is source control.
2. The low level release of VOCs to groundwater will not require active
groundwater cleanup (pump and treat, air sparging, etc.). This approach is
justifiable given the remoteness of the landfill and absence of surrounding
residences.
The performance objective of the corrective action is to primarily stop increases in VOC
concentrations in groundwater and secondarily to reduce VOC concentrations in
groundwater over time. Corrective action taken to mitigate the hypothetical release
scenario will include the following activities:
1. Installing seven landfill gas wells, at 300 foot centers, designed to influence the
deep waste and underlying vadose zone near the impacted area.
2. The wells will be at least 30 feet deep, screened at the soil/waste interface.
3. These wells will be connected to the existing LFG header pipe through control
valves.
Corrective Action Financial Assurance Cost Estimate 4 May 25, 2007
Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill San Joaquin County Public Works
