' 1
1
flow
Emcon
ASSOCIATES
Consultants in Wastes n e®
Management and August 29 1988
Environmental Control
Proposal 8807-03
Mr. Stephen S. Chen
Deputy Public Works Director
City of Stockton
City Hall
Stockton, California 95202-1997
Re: Ground-Water Investiga-
tion, French Camp Land-
fill
Dear Mr. Chen:
EMCON is pleased to submit this proposal to perform a ground-water
investigation at the French Camp Landfill in Stockton, California.
The scope of work will include the following tasks:
• Installing of ground-water monitoring wells
• Collecting and analyzing vadose zone soil samples
• Determining the direction of ground-water movement
The proposed locations of the ground-water monitoring wells are shown
on Figure 1. EMCON made a preliminary evaluation of the direction of
ground-water movement in the site area by reviewing the San Joaquin
County Flood Control and Water Conservation District's ground-water
contour map for the spring of 1986 (reprinted in forward Inc. Land-
fill , Closure Plan, Eljumaily & Bulter Assoc. September 1987) .
Although the site is on the edge of the District's contour map (water
level data are not well defined) , the direction of ground-water
movement appears to be to the east or northeast. The sloughs that
border the site on three sides do not appear to affect the ground--
water flow direction.
Based on these preliminary data, the three monitoring wells proposed
for the site are positioned to best define the direction of ground-
water movement and to determine if the landfill has impacted ground-
water quality. Monitoring Well MW-1 is located in an apparent upgrad-
fent position and will be used to determine background water quality.
1921 Ringwood Avenue, San Jose, California 95131, (408)TI5-1444
