Have the monitoring wells been sampled? If not, a first round of sampling
should be done and the results submitted to the Board. The analyses should
include, but not be limited to, specific conductance, pH, sulfate,
chloride, nitrate, alkalinity, carbonate, bicarbonate, dissolved iron,
manganese, total organic carbon, metals, and volatile organics.
2. The report states that "refuse was encountered in Boring MW -1 to a depth
of 37 feet, which is approximately four feet below first -encountered
groundwater". This is the monitoring well that was supposed to be used
for background water quality. Any water quality data obtained from this
well would be indicative of the water under the landfill, but not of the
background water quality. A new background monitoring well may be needed.
If the ground water sampling shows that the landfill has had no impact on
the ground water, then a new background well may not be needed.
Please respond to these comments by 1 April 1989.
