I. N. KLEINFELDER & ASSOCIATES File No. S-1147-27
April 19, 1974
PAGE FIVE
LABORAn
TORY TESTING
Laboratory '
i y testswer e performed on reelected samples of
p
the soils obtained in the three test, borings. The purpose
of these tests was to evaluate the
moisture content and unit
weight of the soils and the grain-size characteristics . The
tests performed inc7uded Moisture Content and Dry Density
Determinations, Sieve Analyses, and Hydrometer Analyses .
The results of the Moisture Content and Dry y De it:
:.
Determinations are s r ed on Table I. The results of
the Hydrometer Analyeen are also summarized on -Table II
and the Gradation Analyses are summarized graphically on
Plates III through V
DISCUSSION
The relationship of the soil strata
in each boring to
the existingaround surface is presented on Plate I. The
7 soil strata encountered in the three test borings are reasonably
F
r" consistent, with the exception of the surface filt in Boring 1,
and the absent (excavated) upper soils in Bori3. We found
W no strata of clean sands in these borings . In genera1i. the,- .,
soils encountered in the borings are primarily cohesive clays
y
and silts , with clayey and silty sands . As indicated by the
Hydro ter Analyses and Sieve Analyses, the sandy soils
appear to have a large percentage of fines .
x
M
