SOUTH SIDE OF FRENCH CAMP LANDFILL
STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA
Gentlemen:
Presented in this'"letter are the results of the eight test pits performed In the vicinity
of -the PO be E 8 -inch steel gas line located south of French Camp Landfill. The
purpose of -the test pits, which were excavated by P G fit: E personnel to depths of
between 31 to 5 feet, was to disclose the possible presence of refuse and. also to
evaluate If Methane gas was migrating south from the landfill site. Our observations
were made on August 10, 1989. The locations of the test pits are shown,,pn the.
attached sketch. In all eight .test pits only native soils were encountered consisting
mostly of silty sand with. minor Interbedded layers of sandy silt. No debris was
encountered In any of the test pits. Methane gas was evaluated using a Sentury OVA
88..flame 'ironization device. A background reading of 5 parts per million was noted on
the gas meter. Gas aamples taken adjacent to freshly excavated soil along the sides
and bottom of the trenches indicated no readings `above the 'background value.
We trust this letter presents the information requested at this time. We have not
drafted the Logs of Test Pits as all materials were native soils. The field logs of the
test pits will be kept on file.
