CITY OF STOCKTON
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS
CITY HALL
425 N. Box 388
Stockton, CA 95201-0388
AUSTIN ROAD AND FRENCH CAMP LANDFILLS GAS MONITORING RESULTS
FOR THE SECOND QUARTER OF 1996
Attached for your information are the second quarter gas monitoring results for the Austin Road
and French Camp Landfills.
The results for the Austin Road Landfill show that probe SGP-7 exceeded the lower explosive
limit(LEL). The first quarter results for this probe showed methane at only 19%of the LEL.
Confirmation of the results will be available from the third quarter testing. If the results from the
third quarter testing show that SGP-7 exceeds the LEL again, corrective action measures will be
explored.
The results for the French Camp Landfill do not confirm a second consecutive quarter of
exceeding the LEL for probes SGP -2A and SGP-7A. However, the results do confirm that SGP-
5 has exceeded the LEL for the second consecutive quarter. As has been noted in the past, this
probe is located in refuse and not at the boundary because of the French Camp Slough. This
means that SGP-5 is a poor indicator of gas migration. In the past, probes have been placed on
the other side of the waterway to determine if the gas has actually migrated offsite. The City of
Stockton is prepared to do this again, however, first we will contact consultants to determine if
this is the best course of action. A corrective action plan will be provided in approximately 60
days.
If you have any questions, please contact me at 937-8829.
ROBERT MURDOCH
SENIOR CIVIL ENGINEER/SOLID WASTE
cc: Stephen Chen
Mike Miller
"STOCKTON...CALIFORNIA'S SUNRISE SEAPORT"
