probe SPG-lA in April 2007. Table 7 summarizes the results for the soil-pore gas
samples collected during current event at the French Camp Landfill. Methane was
detected in all of soil-pore gas probes with the highest concentration measured in the
sample from probe SGP-2 (0.155 V%). However, given the fact that probes SGP-4A
through 8A are separated from the landfill by the sloughs, these low level methane
concentrations may be the result of decomposing organic material in the sloughs. In
addition,21 VOCs were detected in the samples from soil-pore gas monitoring probes
during the current monitoring period, with the sample from probe SGP-7A containing the
highest total concentration of measurable VOCs.
6.0 SUMMARY
Groundwater quality conditions beneath the French Camp Landfill during the first quarter
2007 monitoring period are generally similar to those observed in previous monitoring
periods. During the first quarter 2007 monitoring period, inorganic CLs were exceeded
in DMP wells MW-9A,MW-9B, and MW-10A. In addition, organic constituent results
indicate concentrations of TCFM exceed the PQL in the sample collected from well
MW-9A,which is likely related to the recently constructed final cover system, and an
associated increase in LFG generation. In a meeting with the RWQCB on March 9,
2007,Forward proposed quarterly monitoring of existing groundwater monitoring wells
and soil-pore gas probes through May 2008 to evaluate the significance of landfill gas at
the site.
The results of water quality analyses completed for leachate monitoring well MW-2
indicates that no VOCs were detected in the sample from this well during the current
monitoring period.
The results of water quality analyses completed for surface-water monitoring stations are
generally consistent with previous results and with the exception of bromoform,
bromodichloromethane, and dibromochloromethane at background station SW-2,no CL
exceedances were noted during the first quarter 2007 monitoring period. Of note, similar
concentrations of bromodichloromethane, bromoform, and dibromochloromethane were
measured in QA/QC blanks at several landfills during the fourth quarter 2006, and an
audit by BC indicated that the VOCs were the result of contaminated VOA containers.
Given that SW-2 is a background surface water station and the recent laboratory
contamination, it is unlikely that these VOCs are the result of an impact from the facility
and further monitoring is necessary to evaluate the significance of these suspect VOCs.
Trend analyses indicates that turbidity at surface water stations SW-1, SW-2, and SW-3
depict statistically significant increasing trends. Since turbidity exhibits a statistically
significant increasing trend at background surface water stations SW-1 and SW-2, the
increasing trend in turbidity at SW-3 is unlikely to be indicative of an impact from the
facility.
A total of 21 VOCs were detected in the samples from soil-pore gas monitoring probes
during the current monitoring period, with the sample from probe SGP-7A containing the
highest total concentration of measurable VOCs.
