CONCLUSIONS
The previous monitoring event showed that methane concentrations exceeding 5% existed in the
deep probe of GW-3. The current methane concentration at this location is below 5%. Past
quarters have shown gas levels above 5%in all the wells along the labor camp (GW-1 to GW-3),
and in GW-12. During the Fourth Quarter Monitoring Event, there were no detections above the
5% limit. Steps have been taken to address the exceedence in GW-3 and reduce the amount of
migration in the other wells showing traces of migration. The County has also retained the
services of an engineering consulting firm to evaluate the current conditions at the Harney Lane
Sanitary Landfill. This firm, along with the County is developing a scope of work and a timeline
for completion. The County will submit this scope of work to the Environmental Health Division
by February 16, 2001. We will continue to make the necessary adjustments to the system so that a
high level of efficiency is maintained and no exceedences in gas migration are minimized.
Monitoring will continue with the next monitoring event in April 2001. Further monitoring will
help determine if the gas control system is working efficiently.
N:\Dan\Hl\Gas\l st2001 gas.wpd
5
