File No. 20-1008-38
August 1, 1990
San Joaquin County Public Works
Solid Waste Division
Post Office Box 1810
Stockton, California 95201
f
i_ Attention: Rudy Rodriguez
Subject: SLOPE STABILITY ANALYSES
HARNEY LANE LANDFILL CLOSURE
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, CALIFORNIA
f Gentlemen:
i._
At your request, we have completed the slope stability analyses for
the Harney Lane Landfill located in San Joaquin County, California.
our scope of services included a review of previous geotechnical
t studies performed at the Harney Lane Landfill and a study of soil
and waste strength characteristics at similar landfills. Reference
is made to our preliminary geologic investigation dated September
3 , 1986, which includes discussions regarding the regional and site
geology, geological history, and general soil conditions
encountered at the site.
We understand that the proposed closure will include a primary and
t a secondary landfill. A typical primary landfill section consists
ti
#_. of a 2:1 (2 Horizontal:l Vertical)slope approximately 22 feet high
with a 3 percent grade increasing from the top of the slope toward
the center of the landfill. The critical slope on the primary
landfill includes a V-ditch approximately 1 foot deep at the toe
of slope. The critical secondary slope has basically the same soil
characteristics as a primary slope with the exception of a 1.75:1
slope and an approximate 8 feet wide, 5 feet deep cut at the toe
of slope. Both configurations include a 4 feet thick soil zone
