J. H. KLEINFELDER & ASSOCIATES
File No. 5-1008-21
March 27, 1985
Page 3
r
of the soil conditions encountered in each boring are presented on the Logs of Test
Pits. All soils have been classified according to the Unified Soil Classification System
which is described on Plate II.
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Borrow Material
i
Based on our evaluation of the soils data collected from the seven exploratory
t backhoe pits made for this investigation and from our December 1984 test borings, it is
our opinion this site will provide material with a coefficient permeability of 1 x
10-6 centimeters per second. The soils encountered at the site generally consist of
j sandy silt and silt clay for the surface 3 feet. This material is underlain by sandy
silts and silty sands with moderate cementation to the 5-foot level. This material
grades more cemented with depth.
Permeability tests were performed on two samples of the near surface silty clay
materials. As shown on Plate VIII at the end of this report, these test results were
generally less than 1 x 10®7 centimeters per second. Tests were also performed on an
equal mixture of the near surface silty clay and silty sands and material from the 4
F- and 5-foot levels. These tests were also generally less than 1 x 10'6 centimeters per
second.
In preparing this report, we have referenced our July 1980 soils investigation for
the Harney Lane Landfill, and our December 1984 investigation for the subject site.
From the results of tests made during our earlier investigations and in preparing this
report and our experience at the site, it is our opinion that at least 80 percent of the
' cemented silty sand and sandy silt materials below the 5-foot level and the shallower
soils have permeabilities less than 1 x 10-6 centimeters per second. These materials
f
LL1
