f ..
. H. KLEINFELDER &ASSOCIATES
i
File: S-1008-21/12:337
r Revised: July 8, 1986
- Page 8
ANALYTICAL PARAMETERS
An assessment of the existing water quality conditions will
= be ' made after the ground water monitoring wells are installed.
The initial water.quality GamPles will be analyzed for Parameters
specified in- the California Administrative Code, Title 22, used
to assure potability. For the Harney Lane Landfill, the
Inorganic* and general minerals as specified in Title 22 are
recommended. These parameters should be monitored on an annual
basis. Unless the initial or annual extensive list of analyses
Indicates that certain -parameters exceed allowable limits, the
Intermediate quarterly tests will be limited to specific
conductance. pH, hardness, COD, chloride, and total nitrogen.
The predominant organic contaminant found in ground waters
underlying some landfills are the volatile organics. For this
reason, testing for EPA Method 624 purgeable volatile organics
will also be performed initially and on an annual basis. A
complete list of the analytical parameters to be tested on an
annual basis is shown on Table 1. -
SAMPLING OF GROUND WATER MONITORING
ELM
As stated in the previous sections, each of the ground water
monitoring wells will be equipped with dedicated pumps. This
will allow simplified sampling procedures and decrease the
Potential for biasing the representative nature of the collected
samples. The sampling procedures which will be followed at the
Harney Lane Landfill are as follows:
® Prior to purging, the water level will be determined in
each well.
o PR, temperature, and specific conductance or electric
conductivity will be measured as the well is being
purged.
o Samples will be collected in appropriate sample
containers supplied by the contract laboratory. These
will be polyethylene jars for inorganic parameters, and
glass jars when analyzing for organic, contaminants.
Containers for metal analyses will be acid fixed.
o Each sample will be properly identified and labeled and
stored on ice.
