Unless this landfill is designed to channel and <br /> . collect leachate to a designated area(s) , the optimum <br /> location for monitoring would at this point be a best <br /> guess effort. <br /> o Vadose zone monitoring can be an effective early <br /> warning device if installed prior to any leakage. if <br /> leakage is being assumed, the installation benefits of <br /> vadose zone monitoring devices are minimized and other <br /> less costly investigative procedures would provide the <br /> same benefit. <br /> o Slant drilling to install vadose monitoring is costly <br /> and may result in installation <br /> of equipmentation of whpicchessure <br /> not operate properly. <br /> lysimeters in an angled borehole creates severe <br /> operating difficulties. Installation of perforated <br /> pipe leak detection systems are also very ineffective <br /> devices.
