Method blanks are composed of all reagents used in the method and are
carried through the entire analytical process in an identical manner
as the environmental samples. These blanks were used to monitor
contamination from the laboratory. The laboratory was responsible for
preparing and using method blanks.
Each sample to be analyzed for organic parameters contained surrogate
spike compounds. The results of the surrogate recoveries were used to
determine if the analytical instrumentation was operating within
prescribed limits of quality control .
The laboratory also performed a matrix spike to provide a means to
u monitor and evaluate the laboratory data quality. Matrix spike
results were evaluated to determine whether the sample matrix was
interfering with the laboratory analysis.
Chain-of-Custody control
The following procedures were used during sampling and analysis to
provide chain-of-custody control during transfer of samples from col-
lection through storage. Recordkeeping activities included the use of
the following:
6 Field logbook for the documentation of activities in the
field
® Labels to identify individual samples
• Chain-of-custody record sheets for documentation of
transfer and possession of samples
• Laboratory analysis request sheet for documenting analy-
ses to be performed
Field Logbook
In the field the sampler recorded the following information in the
field logbook for each sample collected:
PJ9 9390102.00D C-7
