ANATEC er^ACQ
LABORATORIES
\ INC.
435 Tesconi Circle Santa Rosa, California 95401 ;07-32b-71 -100
Annelise Jade Bazar May 26 , 1987
EMCON ANATEC Log No. 9308 (1-9)
1921 Ringwood Avenue Series No: 394/003
San Jose, CA 95131 Client Ref: PO 14275
Subject: Analysis of .Nine Water
Samples Received on
: May 15, 1987 to Measure Mercury Content.
Dear Ms. Bazar:
Analysis of the above referenced samples has been completed.
Results of analysis are presented in Table 1. Other samples
R received in the same shipment were assigned separate log numbers;
results of analysis of those samples will be reported under sep-
arate cover. Brief descriptions of sample handling, preparation
and mercury analysis procedures follow.
Samples were delivered by a commercial courier (National Courier
Service) on May 15, 1987 at 11:11 am. Upon receipt, the samples
were found to be intact, legibly labeled, cold by virtue of
refrigerated shipment and in otherwise good condition® Samples
were accompanied by chain-of-custody documentation which was com-
pleted during the log-in process. Subsequent to log-in, the pH
of each sample was verified to be less than two, and the samples
were placed in secure storage where they were maintained at four
degrees centigrade until analysis commenced.
The procedure for mercury measurement is based on Method 245.1
found in U.S. EPA Publication No. 600/4-79-020, "Methods for
Chemical Analysis of Water and Wastes", revised March 1983.
1 Briefly, aliquots of sample were digested with mixed mineral acids
and potassium permanganate. Hydroxylamine hydrochloride was added ,
to the digested samples to remove excess permanganate. Mercury
was reduced to the elemental state by the addition of stannous
sulfate and aerated from solution in a closed system attached to
an atomic absorption spectrophotometer. Absorbance was measured
as a function of mercury concentration.
Biological Studies Laboratory Analysis Research
