File No. 20-1008-48 kNj KLEINFELDER
January 3 , 1992
parameters of anticipated earthquakes.
Due to the presence of generally dense soil conditions, the lack
of relatively clean sand layers and/or groundwater encountered
below a depth of 40 feet (see logs of test borings) , in our
opinion, the potential for liquefaction beneath this site is very
low.
GEOLOGIC HAZARDS
In considering other possible hazards to the site, we evaluated
the potential for ground lurching, earthquake-induced floodings,
tsunamis, and seiches. Based on our evaluation, we find that
because of the topography and location of the site, it is highly
improbable that damage would occur to the site as a result of any
of these possible hazards.
As a result of our evaluation, the following conclusions were
reached regarding the geologic and seismic hazards at the site.
1. There are no known faults or shear zones crossing
the site which would endanger the slope of the
landfill due to ground rupture.
2 . The potential for damaging strong motions associated
with earthquakes in the site area, based on history,
is low compared to much of California.
3 . Based on available data, it is anticipated that the
maximum peak site acceleration, would not exceed
approximately 0. 20g based on a MCE of Richter
magnitude 8 . 5 occurring on the closest point of the
San Andreas fault zone, approximately 75 miles from
Stockton.
4 . The potential for differential settlement of the
surface due to liquefaction beneath the site is very
low due to the soil and groundwater conditions
encountered.
5. The inland location of the site make damage due to
tsunamis or seiches unlikely.
CONCLUSIONS
General
The drilling operations performed for this investigation were
generally located very near the crest of the slopes. The
material found during the course of drilling operations at
various depths was in reasonable agreement with cross sections
provided to Kleinfelder, Inc. previously by San Joaquin County.
Copyright 1992 Kleinfelder, Inc.
